Why don't I find this hard to believe? Angelina Jolie is rumored to be taking on the role of one of my four-year old daughter's most revered villains: Maleficent of Sleeping Beauty fame.
Angelina would most definitely look natural in Maleficent's black garb — hasn't she worn a similar get-up at almost every red carpet event she's attended?
You must admit she pretty much has down the evil 'looking down the nose' expression that Maleficent wore every time she ran into those meddlesome good fairies. Basically, she seems to be a natural for this part.
And it's worth mentioning that Maleficent always seemed somewhat misunderstood – and, if I remember my gossip of yore correctly, Angelina has struggled with being 'misunderstood' as the woman who broke up Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt. (She struggled pretty well, in fact; unlike the slain Maleficent, she pretty much came out a winner in all categories there [if, that is, Pitt and public acceptance can be considered the 'prize'.])
Remember: in Disney's animated Sleeping Beauty, we never really know exactly why Malificent was scorned by the royal court. Perhaps she stole the betrothed of Fauna or Flora (I don't think Merryweather had much luck with the menfolk… shame on me for making that assumption but she really strikes me as a whiny-type) or maybe she wore the wrong cut of fairy-gown to a ball, but whatever: we don't know whether she was justly banished, and so we don't know whether or not she has any reason to be dragon-flipping angry.
Anyway. Tim Burton's Sleeping Beauty will, apparently, be told from Maleficent's point of view, which means that we might get some answers. Maybe now we will finally know what actually happened to make her so bitter and fond of the color black. I know this Bad Mom wants to know.
